CHRISTMAS at FIRST
December 20, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Bach’s sparkling yet introspective Cantata 147 will anchor our in-person Advent IV worship services on December 20 at 9 and 11AM in a very special way. In a MUCH smaller format than we normally celebrate “Christmas at First,” we hope this offering (with all best distancing and safety practices in mind) will bring the Spirit of season to your hearts and minds, as we prepare for the coming birth of Christ. (The 11AM service will be live-streamed).
Soloists Janet Poisson, soprano; Mauri Tetrault, mezzo soprano; Timothy Ayres-Kerr, tenor and Mark Andrew Cleveland, bass are featured in this collaboration with the Staff Singer Quartet (and select guests) of The First Church. The Muddy Brook Chamber Orchestra (socially-distanced as well!) will be conducted by Joseph R. Olefirowicz on organ continuo.
Entry to the church building is through the sole entrance currently used, in the courtyard between the old and new buildings at the rear. Wearing masks is a requirement inside our church building, which is operating at 30% capacity and with full social-distancing and air exchange in the Sanctuary.
This Bach Cantata features two movements, also known as the beloved choruses “Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring”. Soli Deo Gloria!
