The Chancel Choir of The First Church will come into the Series for a second seasonal project as part of our 100th organ anniversary. The retrospective musical telling of Christ’s last words on the Cross are woven through the music and beautiful English-translation texts of Théodore Dubois’ “Seven Last Words” accompanied by the mighty Anderson Memorial Organ.
Joining our professional house soloists within the Music at First ministry: internationally-acclaimed tenor Steven Caldicott Wilson (member of the double Grammy-nominated New York Polyphony vocal quartet) returns back to First Music. The Dubois choral work will be woven into the gentle fabric of a Vespers format. As our second pipe organ (1976 Andover Organ Company, Opus 79) celebrates her 50th Anniversary in 2026: this sister chamber organ will also be present in the grand Victorian sanctuary, offering additional works by Johann Sebastian Bach. A time to reflect, meditate and contemplate on a winter’s afternoon.
