Jesus of Nazareth

April 8, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Rev. Jami invites you and your family to watch this 1977 Franco Zefferelli, all-star film, as a way to prepare for Easter.

Now that we are staying home, and getting more accustomed to virtual encounters, let’s do something as a church community that is easy for most of us to do and something that will pay spiritual dividends, let’s watch Jesus of Nazareth “together!”

I have watched this six-hour film every Lent for the past thirty years as a way to prepare for the season of Christ’s death and resurrection.  You can binge watch it or, like me, divide your viewing into three two-hours sessions.

The first two hours include the annunciation, birth and circumcision of John the Baptist, Joseph’s visitation, the Nativity of Jesus, the visit of the Magi, the Massacre of the Innocents, and the baptism of Jesus.  The next two hours begin with Jesus calling his disciples, Jesus’ ministry of healing and preaching, the killing of John the Baptist, introduction of Mary Magdalene, and Jesus’ journey into Jerusalem for Passover.  The final two hours include the betrayal of Jesus by Judas, the Sanhedrin trial of Jesus, Peter’s denying Christ, Pilate’s judgment, the Passion narrative, crucifixion, the empty tomb, and the appearance of the risen Christ to his Disciples.  See below for places you can watch this film

We have two and a-half weeks before Easter to prepare, plenty of time to “watch together.”  On Wednesday April 8 from 3:30-4:30PM I will host a Zoom Call-in so that we can discuss your experiences.  I’ll send out another email about how to access that Zoom Call-in during Holy Week.  You may also contact me through email if you have any questions or insights.

God bless you all this Lenten season.   Rev. Jami
